One of my favorite fish to target in early spring when Great Lakes water temps just start to warm up is chunky White Bass. While many anglers don’t get excited about these amazing fish, they are available in big numbers and are very tasty deep-fried.
Our good friend Jeff Wood has been fishing deep for the in 25-30′ of water and has been catching some nice White Bass up to 19″ long.
Live minnows work great fished on a pickerel-rig but I prefer to use a Fishing Compete Case or Zipper soft-plastic on a 1/4 or 3/8 oz jighead and fish it along the bottom or in the water column. White Bass are scrappy fish that make their annual runs into Great Lakes harbors & rivers from April to the end of June.
