West-coast Steelhead update.

Posted on August 29th, 2017

Noel Gyger reports. Light rain with highs to +16 degrees Celsius.  ALL the rivers are in good shape. Most of all the snow melt is down from the mountains. This means rivers should stay in shape unless we get a lot of rain.   Kalum River closed for Chinook on August 6th and all the Steelhead have spawned (kelted) and are heading back to the ocean. Guiding started April 1 and ends October 31.  Skeena River is in good shape, kind of a milky colour. Chinook fishing closed in a section near Terrace BC (from Lakelse River mouth upstream to the Skeena River Overpass (New Hwy Bridge) at Ferry Island) and closed to Sockeye and Chum. You can fish for Coho, Pink and Steelhead. Connor Sabo has been fishing mostly with fly rod and doing extremely well, check out his reports for more detail. Zymoetz (Copper) River a few summer-run Steelhed are coming in now; and fishing is good BUT we need good water condition. Kitimat River Water in good shape but very low. Coho have started to come in, it would help if we get a bump in higher water or high tides. Fishing is OK for Chum,Pinks and local Trout. Ocean fishing for Salmon, Halibut, Prawn and Crab good out of the ports of Kitimat and Prince Rupert.
