Welland River, ON walleye TV show.

Walleye have been stocked in the Welland River for several years.

Welland River, ON walleye TV show.  Aaron Shirey, Mulligan & I just had the pleasure of filming a trophy walleye TV show on the Welland River, ON with Aaron Dowden from Yamaha Canada.  We started fishing around 10am and fished south of Welland.

Rapala crankbaits are an excellent choice for locating river walleye.
River walleye can be caught anywhere, but structure/current breaks are definitely "hot-spots".

The 18? Riverhawk performed well rigged with the Minn Kota Terrova iPilot electric motor and Humminbird 800 series sonar.  We use Rapala Shift & Concept Ti rods matched with Rapala reels for both types of fishing.  Our line of choice was the Sufix 832 braid in 10 lb. test with a 20 lb. test Sufix fluorocarbon leader.

As soon as we marked structure coming up from 10 or 12′ of water to 4-5′ we started casting the Rapala Dives To 7 Flat crankbaits.

The walleye ranged from 12″ in length, right up to 28″, a sign of a healty fishery.  All the walleye were released.  If you are planning on fishing the Welland River, I would encourage you to release your fish as well.
