Welland River, ON fishing Report

Posted on August 29th, 2011

I went out and tried fishing the Welland River for the first time, launching my boat across from the Welland / Niagara Airport.  The launch is very good, great slope, gravel pad and a small dock to assist in launching and loading the boat.

I was using a silver / blue deep diver casting along a rock ledge break under the Niagara Street Bridge in Welland, ON.  I landed a 5lbs. sheapshead and a 2lbs. pike on this lure.  Further back toward the Prince Charles Drive Bridge, I landed a small largemouth bass, on a Rapala Shad Rap Jointed in the hot crawdad colour, while casting alongside a large deadfall tree in the middle of the river.

The weather was great, sunny with some cloud and breeze and water temp was ranging from 24 – 25*C.
