Mat Corey of Topset Sport Fishing , sent us these images of some mixed walleye and longnose gar they experienced on a recent fishing outing.
While you can catch walleye using a variety of techniques from trolling, drifting, casting & jigging, longnose gar are always a surprise to hook.
While walleye can feed suspended and even on the surface, for the most part they feed near the bottom, especially during the day. Gar on the other hand prefer to feed just below the surface or on the surface. So many times when you are trolling and especially casing lures like Rapala’s, you can encounter a gar strike. Because of their long bony snout they can be challenging to hook, but every once and a while, anglers get lucky.
