Walleye fishing from Marmac Lodge, Esnagi Lake, ON.

[nggallery id=730]You know it’s going to be a good days fishing when you test your lures off the dock and hook an 18” walleye on your second cast and then a nice pike.  That’s what happened to me while I was sitting in the boat and testing the action on the Lucky Strike Bait Works “closed-eye” spinnerbait rigged with a TriggerX Minnow.

Today we decided to test a new “drop-shot” rig for walleye using the VMC Spin Shot hooks about 3” up from a ¼ oz. ball sinker & minnow rig.  We decided to test the rig in water as shallow as 9’ and as deep as 20’, and it proved very successful.

We fished the drop-shot rigs on our lightweight Rapala Walleye Team series rod equipped with Rapala spinning and baitcasting reels and loaded again with Sufix 6 & 10 lb. test braided line & fluorocarbon leaders.

Mulligan is having as much fun as we are and really enjoying the fresh air, fishing and especially the fresh walleye shorelunch!!

Mulligan has also made a new friend, a Poodle/Golden Retriever mix called Max.  Max is about twice the size as Mulligan and patiently waits outside our cabin door at 6am to play with Mulligan and than waits again on the dock for Mulligan to come back from fishing.  They have had a great time fetching sticks in the water, wrestling and looking for snowshoe hare, squirrels and the occasional loose chicken (yes, Marmac Lodge has some chickens in a pen, nothing like fresh eggs!).

Our portable Humminbird 570 sonar really helped us locate subtle breaks where we consistently caught walleye.

Today we will are planning on doing a dynamic TV show using the VMC Spin Shot hooks along with live minnow and the new TriggerX walleye series of baits.
