Walleye Fishing at it’s best at Marmac Lodge, ON.

[nggallery id=528]We just finished shooting an excellent walleye TV show at Marmac Lodge on Esnagi Lake, ON.  Our adventure started in Sudbury, ON, where we took the train north to mile 88, north of Chapleau, ON.  The train takes all kinds of gear including canoes, and small boats, as we found out since many of the anglers traveling on the train got off on isolated lakes and rivers to enjoy a wilderness “train-fishing” experience.  We were fortunate to also take our pup Mulligan on the train.  When we arrived at mile 88 north of Chapleau, ON, the train stopped and the Marmac Lodge staff met us with their boats, picked-up all our gear and took us to the lodge which is situated on a Esnagi Lake which offers anglers over 25 km of walleye filled waters.

We started the day fishing 5-10′ of water over mud/sand flats and started catching walleye immediately.  My wife Barbara fished jigs and minnows while I fished the TriggerX Paddletail Minnow and Finesse Minnow.  For the first hour, the TriggerX was out-fishing live minnows 5:1!!  We used the Rapala Walleye Team and Tournament Series rods matched with Shift & Striker reels.  The Sufix 832, 10 lb. braid was ideal to feel even the lightest hit.

One of the main highlights of our first day on the water was having a fresh walleye shorelunch and enjoying “walleye-bobs”.  This was our pup Mullignan’s highlight since she got to explore an island and enjoy some of the freshly cooked fish.  I have a feeling she will be looking forward to shorelunch, like us, everyday!
