Using stinger hooks to catch inactive fish in deep-water.

Posted on June 29th, 2015

I often enjoy deep-water jigging throughout the summer for lake trout, smallmouth and walleye. When I say deep, it can be anywhere from 40-100′ depths! In many situations, and especially when the weather is hot, the water flat and the skies bright, all three species can be pretty inactive, even at deeper depths. My strategy than is to use soft-plastic minnow grub, or tube with the right size jig hook and I add a stinger hook to get those short strikes, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsDxPQi-nNU .
