Upper NY tributary fishing report.

Posted on January 12th, 2016

Ron Bierstine reports. Flows in the Oak Orchard are still hanging in at mod levels but are pretty clear. The latest cold snap should be behind us after today with moderating temps forecast in the 40’s thru the end of week and possibly warmer yet with precip for the upcoming weekend.

Flows may retreat toward low even with the warm-up and before any more precip. Fishing pressure is not bad, guys are spread out thru the typical winter holding water like at the dam, the few holes and the downstream slack water. There’s no significant icing in the Oak Orchard. With fish concentrated in select spots, anglers are into fair to good numbers of fish including browns and steelhead and the occasional fresher fish. The other area smaller tribs have low – mod and clear flows where there has been some icing. The warmer end of week temps should make for cold water but open water drift chances in the smaller tribs. Over-the-all anglers will have best hook-up chances with light line drifts in the clear water color.
