Trout fishing was excellent at Humber Springs Trout Club.

italo_big_rainbowMy wife Barbara and I just enjoyed a wonderful day of fly fishing for trophy rainbow trout at the www.humbersprings.com, Trout Club near Mono Mills, ON.  We were guest of our good friend Ron Lambert who has been a member there for years.  Humber Springs offers trout anglers 3-lakes to fish for rainbow and brook trout.  The fishing is normally excellent there, but due to the hot weather we have had lately, the rainbows were finicky.  We had to go down to 4 lb. test fluorocarbon leaders, long leads and we used small #16 & #18 hook-flies.  The most productive fly was the Parson Special, the second most popular was a tiny Copper-head (Copper-bead nymph).  We started fishing about 9am and I had a fish hit on my first cast.  I missed it, and did not have another hit until about 2 hrs. later.  Barbara ended up hooking the largest fish of the day, but it made one jump out of the water and than proceeded to break her leader.  We ended up keeping 4 nice trout for a big dinner tomorrow night.  Elvin, our other good friend had landed 4-eating size rainbows (2-3 lb.), and was gracious enough to fry them up for lunch, so we had an excellent fresh rainbow trout dinner overlooking the trout lakes.  If you like the privacy and productivity of fishing at a trout club, I would really encourage you to check out www.humbersprings.com .
