[nggallery id=729]After catching all the walleye we wanted for a dynamic Walleye TV show we decided to fish some of the weedy shorelines and large weedbed areas for pike.
High winds made boat control difficult, but the Yamaha 20 hp., 4-stroke outboard we were using is very smooth and I was able to use it in reverse going in and out of gear to slow-down our drift so that we could cast.
My wife Barbara and I used the Rapala Shift and TS2 rods in the medium-action. Barb matched her rod with the new Rapala Andros spinning reel and I used the Shift baitcasting and spinning reel. We had a chance to fish the Lucky Strike Bait Works spinners rigged with the new TriggerX Slop Hopper paddle-tail grubs and also the new Rapala BX Swimmer in the size #12. We fished the Sufix 832 braided line in 20 lb. Test with fluorocaron and wire leaders.
Our portable Humminbird 570 sonar really helped us stay on the weedbeds so we could maximize our chances at hooking up pike.
Today we will try casting spoons & spinnerbaits for more pike.
We caught several pike up to 30” and after dinner we went out to have some fun with walleye and ended up catching 3-nice pike and about 40-walleye up to 22” in about 2 hrs.
