[nggallery id=529]We had great weather again today and excellent fishing for trophy pike at Marmac Lodge, Esnagi Lake, ON. You know the pike fishing will be good when you make a cast while the boat is tied to the dock to make sure you don’t have any line tangles and a 7 lb. pike hits your lure. That’s exactly what happened this morning before heading out. We started out by fishing a weed-filled bay just minutes from the lodge. My wife Barbara was casting a Lucky Strike 1/2 oz. closed-eye spinnerbait and I was casting the Rapala Max Rap #17. Within 30 min., Barbara had the first trophy pike on that measured 37″ and had a thick girth. We continued to fish the weeds and ended up landing 5-nice size northerns including a 39″ fish that was long and lean and it “smashed” the 17 cm. Max Rap!
Our gear for today was the Rapala Shift baitcasting rod and reel combo and the R-Type 2-piece medium heavy action combo. Both were spooled with Sufix 832, 30 lb. test braid and equipped with 30 lb. test Sufix fluorocarbon leaders.
We headed back to the lodge for dinner and than decided to go out for a couple of hours. Surprise, my first walleye hit in 6′ of water and measured-out at 27″! We caught another 21″ walleye and Barbara caught a nice 7-8 lb. pike.
Tomorrow we will try and catch a few more pike to finish the TV show and also do a shorelunch where I will do a feature on properly removing “Y-bones” before we fry out fish-up.
