[nggallery id=777]On day two of our fantastic Sund’s Lodge, BC TV shoot we concentated on fishing for bottom fish and we were not disappointed! We started by quickly hooking into some trophy Ling Cod jigging a pinacle in 200′ of water. Next we moved a little further out and targetted nice eating-size halibut. After the halibut we searched some of the popular Pacific Cod hangouts and found them late in the day. We also had some pleasant surprises hooking Arrowtooth, Sole and a variety of Rock Cod.
At one time we could see birds feeding on schools of herring near the surface and Jeof Millar decided to go over and scoop some so we would have fresh bait. He maid one scoop off the bow of the boat with his little scoop net and grabbed about 3-dozen herring. I proceeded to hook a couple on, dropped them down to about 200′, and “bingo”, halibut on!!
For much of the afternoon we also enjoyed watching whales surfacing all around our boat and also feeding on the herring schools that were on the surface.
As a special treat, we enjoyed a “Sund’s Shorelunch” which they call the Sund’s Bistro. Trust me this is no average shorelunch. At Sund’s, you meet on an isolated beach with the rest of the guests and a wonderful spread is waiting for you. A large buffet table, appetizers, wine, hot crab bisque, freshly caught and steamed crab, fresh salmon burgers on a bun, salads and much more!!
I fished the new Rapala Benthos Speed Jigging reel loaded with Sufix 832, 50 lb. Test braid on teh Rapala Speed Jigging Rod. The outfit worked excellent for all of the bottom fish. My top producing bait was the 10 oz. Luhr Jensen Stinger Jig fished right on the bottom.
