Our good friend Debjit who was our guide when we filmed TV episodes in the Orissa region of India and who also operates an aquaculture operation and also has a beautiful guest-house for visitors and especially visiting anglers, sent me this image of a unique and rare fish that was recently caught in the Orissa, India region. It is proof that the Goonch or Devils catfish, which is commonly believed to be found only in northern India, are also found in the Orissa region of India. This trophy was caught by a local fisherman, and was weighed at 45 kgs ( 90 pounds). Unfortunately it had died before Debjt could reach the catch-location to have the fish revived and released. He felt very sorry that he could not release it, as they are now a severely threatened species. Debjit is “on the job”, constantly searching and finding new places for sport fishing in his area. He has also found some excellent Mahseer fishing locations close to where he is.
