Trophy Atlantic Salmon are starting to be caught at The Backlands Lodge on the Humber River, Newfoundland.
Posted on July 6th, 2010[nggallery id=266]We just received the first Atlantic Salmon fishing report from George Hatcher who is co-owner of The Backlands Atlantic Salmon Lodge on the Humber River, Newfoundland. We will be filming at the lodge in two weeks and look forward to capturing some trophy Atlantic Salmon action on the fly!
Here’s the report, “The first fish have arrived at Backlands. Paul (Georges brother), and I were at the lodge with a friend of his and their families this past weekend and we managed to catch and release a couple of 31″ salmon. A good school of large fish have made it up to the lodge to begin the 2010 fishing season. Not a lot of action but a number large fish sighted. (10 – 30 lb range) The main runs are expected in the next week or so. Lower Humber has had some good fishing thus far.
Reports around the province have shown some excellent runs of fish entering the rivers. We fished in Burgeo last week, (our yearly trip) and hooked 20 fish on the first day. We continued to have great action with grilse.
The Exploits River has counted 12,000 fish going through… that’s up from 4,000 same time last year. Both fish were caught on wet flies.
