Trophy Alberta Pike!
Posted on March 24th, 2011[nggallery id=432]Dan Whelpton from Edmonton, Alberta contacted us to tell us about his excellent pike fishing spot. “I have a honey hole of a spot just outside Edmonton Alberta where over this winter I have found big fish. Ice fishing has been the most amazing thing this year and in the past two years and would love to show you what it’s all about. Consistent Pike all day long varying from the 4lbs range up to 20lbs have been landed by me. Tip up action has been the best I’ve ever seen. I’ve been experimenting with different bait and have found these hogs will eat baits up to 1lb. I’m using 10″ herring on a regular basis and go through roughly 20 a day. Easily accessible. Sitting above a drop off that starts at 8 feet and down to 30 feet within about 40 yards with total sand bottom. I’ve sent a couple of photo’s to show you what’s down there, one of me and one of my father. I have a lot more photo’s if you are interested. I have had one fish this year unable to come up an 8″ hole and another that has straightened out a 50lb carbon leader. The best day so far this winter has been 6 pike caught in double digits. Hope to hear from you soon. Picture is one of myself and one of my father.â€
