Trolling for silver Lake Ontario Steelhead.
Posted on October 21st, 2017While many anglers are targeting fresh-run steelhead in the Lake Ontario tributaries, others are still trolling for silver fish that are still off-shore and feeding heavily.
Capt. Aldo Nava who operates www.niagarafishingadventures.com , continues to take clients out and catch either silver salmon or silver steelhead. His strategy is to fish off-shore to avoid hooking up to darker fish that are “staging” around the river mouths. This is a great time of year for small boat fishermen to also capitalize on trolling for a mix of silver and darker fish within 1 mile of tributary harbors. Good lures to flat-line with or to run off of planer boats are 3/8 oz spoons like the Lil’Cleo, the J11 Rapala and even slow-trolling a #7 KwikFish.
