TriggerX Tubes catching trophy Lake Ontario smallmouth bass.

barb_bigsmallieMy wife Barbara, our pup Mulligan and I spent a couple of hours fishing TriggerX Tubes in the Niagara Bar in Lake Ontario and caught 7-beauties in about 3 hrs.

italo_bigsmallieWinds were light and the air temperature rose to about 15 C so we decided to head out about 2pm.  It did not take Barb long to hook into her first fish that pushed 5 lb.

barb_mulliganBoth Barb and I were using the Rapala Shift outfits with Sufix 832, 20 lb. test braid and Sufix Fluorocarbon leaders.

triggerx_tube_smallieAll of our smallies were caught on the TriggerX 4″ Tubes fished on the VMC tube 1/4 oz. tube jigheads. All the bass were caught off the bar in water ranging from 14-18′.

smallieWe drifted with the current and wind and kept our tubes in contact with the bottom every 3-5 sec. The fish hit well and we even ended up getting one double-header.

tube_gobyThroughout our outing we could feel lot’s of taps from goby’s….it amazes me that sometimes you can actually hook one on a lure that is just the right size for smallmouth!

italo_smallieI’m planning to be out there again tomorrow and really focus in on the spot that holds the largest fish. Great Lakes smallies start to school-up as early as late summer right through until late fall and that’s when you can have a “bass-bonanza”!
