My wife Barbara, our pup Mulligan and I spent a couple of hours fishing TriggerX Tubes in the Niagara Bar in Lake Ontario and caught 7-beauties in about 3 hrs.
Winds were light and the air temperature rose to about 15 C so we decided to head out about 2pm. It did not take Barb long to hook into her first fish that pushed 5 lb.
Both Barb and I were using the Rapala Shift outfits with Sufix 832, 20 lb. test braid and Sufix Fluorocarbon leaders.
All of our smallies were caught on the TriggerX 4″ Tubes fished on the VMC tube 1/4 oz. tube jigheads. All the bass were caught off the bar in water ranging from 14-18′.
We drifted with the current and wind and kept our tubes in contact with the bottom every 3-5 sec. The fish hit well and we even ended up getting one double-header.
Throughout our outing we could feel lot’s of taps from goby’s….it amazes me that sometimes you can actually hook one on a lure that is just the right size for smallmouth!
I’m planning to be out there again tomorrow and really focus in on the spot that holds the largest fish. Great Lakes smallies start to school-up as early as late summer right through until late fall and that’s when you can have a “bass-bonanza”!
