Toadfish tackle brand to go under the hammer

Posted on May 13th, 2023

Toadfish, the US fishing tackle and apparel brand known for its eco-friendly ethos, is to be auctioned off by Hilco Streambank.

The auction will include the South Carolina company’s intellectual property, social media accounts, 980,000 customer files and around $1.6 million of inventory.

Bids are due on or before May 2nd at 12pm EST and the auction will take place on May 4th at 12pm EST.

Hilco said that Toadfish sales had more than quadrupled between 2019 and 2021 as more consumers turned to outdoor activities like fishing, leading to peak sales of more than $21 million in 2021.

“Toadfish embodies the coastal outdoor ethos and resonates deeply with its loyal customers,” said Hilco’s Senior Vice President, Richelle Kalnit. “The brand has a diverse distribution network, generating revenue across e-commerce through the toadfish.com site and Amazon, as well as through wholesale partners, including big box retailers and speciality shops.

“The brand excels in categories that are particularly appealing to the Amazon shopper, evidenced by the 4+ stars on Amazon.”

Toadfish, based in Charleston, was founded in 2017 by Casey Davidson, who was formerly a brand manager at Pure Fishing, a product manager at Shimano and also a lobbyist for the Coastal Conservation Association. The Toadfish company has been active in planting oyster beds to filter water, saying that ‘every product sold helps clean coastal waters.’
