The 7th Annual ICHA Fishing Derby, Windsor, ON Great Success.
Posted on June 2nd, 2009
The 7th ICHA (Italian Canadian Handicapable ), Fishing Derby took place again in Windsor, ON on the Detroit River and was a great success. The weather cooperated and hundreds of people attended the charitable event which took place at the water-front park just south of the Ambassadeur Bridge. Even though winds picked-up later in the morning, over 30-anglers weighed-in 50 fish. White perch, rock bass, yellow perch, silver bass and round headed gobies were the most common species caught. We had the pleasure again to cover the event for our Canadian Sportfishing Show on TSN, and join Clay Dyer who travelled from Hamilton, Alabama along with his agent Elvin Smith to also attend the event. The fishing concluded at noon and was followed by a hamburger and sausage lunch, and entertainment performed by the Music Express Orchestra. Both of us MC’d the event, helped anglers with useful tips, and we also did a question & answer period that included Clay doing casting & knot tying demonstrations. All participants also received a signed copy of Clay Dyer’s book, “The View from Down Here is Just Fine.” (available on www.booksamillion.com , www.amazon.com , and on Clay’s www.teamdyer.com . Congratulations to all the people that attended the event, the Essex County Bass Anglers for their help, and also to the entire event coordinating team headed by Pat Pagano and key sponsors such as Ives Insurance. We look forward to attending and covering the event again next year. If you would like more information on the event you can go to, http://www.icha.ca/?module=content&node=who-we-are .
