Noel Gyger reports. Weather forecast rain and snow. The Kalum River is in good shape and Steelhead fishing is fantastic! One can fish for Steelhead all winter here. Please don’t harass the spawning Coho. Remember 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz casting spoons works pretty good to catch Steelhead. Water is dropping so be careful if you take your jet boat. Might be time for the raft or drift-boat. The Lakelse Lake Steelhead fishing at Herman’s is picking up. The upper river is full of spawning Coho. Anglers now are fishing for Steelhead, resident Cutthroat and Dolly’s. Fly-fishing egg pattern flies work the best, also, the brighter the egg fly the better. Float fishing Lil’ Corkies (painted cork balls in various sizes) and a little bit of white wool works well. The bright red or orange ones are favoured. The Copper River water is low and clean. Steelhead fishing is fantastic! This is the river for the fly-rod. The water is clear and the Steelhead have a chance to react when a fly comes drifting by. Dry fly works pretty good too. Float fishing the Pink Worm works very well in this river. This is the time of year…before it gets too cold. On the Kitimat River lots of people are fishing for Trout now. Lake fishing is good everywhere.Ocean fishing for Salmon and Bottom Fish out of Kitimat and Prince Rupert is good; so is Crabbing and Prawning.
