Taking care of your fishing reels.
Posted on January 2nd, 2016I really appreciate the excellent fishing equipment that is available to use today, especially high quality rods and reels. I have learned over the years that it’s very important to take care of both by making sure they are carefully handled when you are fishing to avoid letting grit and dirt get in your reel, or the fishing rod getting scratched, or even stepped on.
When I fish in saltwater I always rinse my gear off with freshwater and lubricate my reels regularly. Most of the equipment I use in saltwater is really designed for freshwater fishing. The Rapala reel above looks tired, the pain has peeled off, but with regular maintenance it still works and is in excellent condition. You can purchase a kit of reel grease and oil for under $5.00 and it is well work the time to make sure your reels are in good working condition!
