I have fished the Niagara a lot throughout the year, both for bass/walleye/panfish and of course for steelhead/brown trout & salmon. I have caught and released some surprises like sturgeon, but never one of these.
My good friend and neighbor Bill Henry was out recently and had a good day drifting tubes for smallmouth on the lower river when he hooked something that fought very different. When it surfaced and netted the fish, I’m sure they were as surprised as when I received the image from him. He had just landed a Ling (Burbot). Just confirms that you can catch anything that swims in Lake Erie and Lake Ontario in the Niagara River!!
