One of the most consistent times to catch lakers in deeper water is during the summer time when bait schools ball up near the bottom in water from 70-100′ depths. Our feature image shows off Jinja Shepherd’s 32″ Laker she hooked while fishing Lake Huron. They were marking a cloud of bait with their Raymarine Dragonfly7Pro between 45-70′ down and seeing lakers coming up from 110-120′ to feed on the bait. Jinja hooked her fish at 55′.
Capt. Aldo Nava who operates www.niagarafishingadventures.com , in Lake Ontario has been putting his customers on consistent laker action trolling sand bars in 90-100′ water. The best presentation is to literally bounce the cannonballs off the sand every 10-15 sec., or if baitfish schools are marked off the bottom, just trolling lures under the bait schools.
