Summer smallmouth can disperse throughout a lake and be feeding anywhere from the surface to the bottom and at any depth in-between.
Pat Pagano sent us these images of some recent Lake St. Clair smallies he and his friend Bruce Thompson caught while fishing an assortment of plastic grubs along the bottom.
If you fish smallies, I think you will agree that you cannot go wrong dragging a soft-plastic along the bottom over rocks any time of day or season for these excellent gamefish.
This season I have done so well using the Lunker City Grubster soft-plastic that swims just like a small Goby along the bottom. Next time you are on the water if cranking, twitching and trolling fails, drop down your favorite soft-plastic to the bottom, just rag it and hold on!
