I am having a great time fishing with one of our grandsons Benjamin Chester. We have been switching from casting for Walleye to fishing ultralights and small jigs for chunky panfish.
The eastern-end of Lake Ontario has many bays filled with weedbeds and weedlines that are home to Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Perch, Rock Bass and even migrating White Perch.
Some of the Bluegill were in the 10″ length which are ideal for filleting and enjoying!
We have been fishing in 9-12′ of water just off the weeds using light line and 1/16 & 1/8 oz. jigs rigged with small 1″ plastic grubs. The panfish are aggressive and hitting just the soft-plastics grubs but we are also adding a small piece of nightcrawler when the bit slows down.
