Successful day of pre-fishing for Lake Simcoe Whitefish.

Posted on January 18th, 2010

Aldo Nava and I took the time to trailer the Yamaha snowmobile, HT Enterprises 2-man hut and all of our ice fishing gear up to the west-side of Lake Simcoe to try and locate a school of trophy whitefish.  Rocky Madsen shared some hot information that the whitefish fishing was hot on the west side of Snake Island, so we headed up to Innisfield Beach and headed out to 78-83′ of water.  It took us about 1 hr. and travelling about 2 miles to find the school of trophy whitefish.  Also Nava of www.niagarafishingadventures.com , landed his first trophy whitefish trough the ice and we both had fun and kept a couple of tasty fish for eating.

We used our Humminbird Ice sonars and 788c Combo , to mark our co-ordinates on the ice and to help us fish the right structure breaks.  We also tested the new Rapala R-Type ice fishing baitcating reel and it passed it’s test in flying colors!!  The hot lure was the Blue Fox Lil’Foxee Jigging Minnow in the 9/16 oz. size.  We also fished 6 lb. test Rapala Tough line and the Rapala 10 lb. test Ice Braid.  The best fishing was between 11am-2pm.  Hopefully we will be able to get out Wed., or Fri., to shoot a dynamic jigging for ice-whitefish TV show.
