Things have changed quickly from above zero temps and up to 50-boats a day taking advantage of fishing the Niagara bar for lakers, steelhead, browns and salmon.
Now with the cold snap of winter reality only brave anglers are drifting the river. Conditions on the Lower River have been clear, but recent winds may have stirred up the water in Lake Erie which should help the fishing as long as the water doesn’t get too turbid. If you are drifting in clear water conditions make sure to use the lightest, long fluorocarbon leader (up to 5-feet), and downsize your bait. If it’s murkier you can go heavier and shorter leader and especially fish the 4-5″ bright plastic grubs & Luhr Jensen Kwikfish.
