St Mary’s River, (Ontario, Canada) – Fresh run steelhead from Lake Huron have arrived in decent numbers to feed on salmon eggs from this years salmon run. Water clarity is clear and sizing down to dime size roe sacs attached to a 3-way rig with a one and a quarter oz. weight has been the ticket for shore fishing. On a recent outing in the boat trolling with minnow imitating crankbaits was very productive. In four hours of fishing we managed to land four steelhead and lost two more. The biggest was 15 lb chrome coloured male and the rest were 6-10 lbs. Best time to fish is when the hydro electric dam is running at full capacity. Trolling slightly faster than the current seems to be the best.
