Our friend Puneet Saini from Himachel Pradesh, India sent us these early spring images of the trout he has been catching near Mandi, India. I was blessed to travel to northern India a couple of times to enjoy the pristine trout fishing in the cold, clear waters that flow down from the Greater Hymalaya mountains.
Puneet has been catching & releasing mostly brown trout up to 2 lb. using small Rapala crankbaits.
Every once and a while he will hook a rainbow trout. The trout do not grow to giant-size in the Greater Hymalaya watershed due to the cold water temps all year round and lack of plentiful forage fish, but they are definitely very colorful, they take flies and lures aggressively and the surrounding mountain/valley scenery is breathtaking!
