Spring time excellent for BC steelhead & salmon.

Posted on January 17th, 2016

Noel Gyger reports. Light snow with highs of -5 degrees Celsius. Rivers in good shape. Kalum River is fishing well for Steelhead.

Here is one from Apr 14th as few years ago ~ Local angler Dennis Therrien with another bright Kalum River Steelhead. This one is a Doe. Fishing on the Kalum is "hot" at this time! And as a bonus Chinook (King) Salmon will be coming in soon. Then one has a chance to catch both Steelhead and Chinook on the same day. WOW - it doesn't get any better than that!

Skeena River in good shape but frozen over in many spots. Steelhead fishing has slow as most of the summer-run fish have gone through. Lakelse River is fishing well for Steelhead, fish the deep cut banks. Zymoetz (Copper) River is fishing well for Steelhead but sections of the river are frozen over. Reg: No Fishing upstream of the sign at the transmission line crossing (downstream of Zymoetz Canyon) Jan 1 – June 15. Steelhead fishing below this closure is still permitted. Just need to find some open water and give it a shot.  Please use extreme caution when walking on the ice!  Kitimat River is fishing good for Trout.

Ocean fishing for Salmon, Halibut, Prawn and Crab good out of the ports of Kitimat, Stewart and Prince Rupert.
