Spotted Sea Trout action off Manasota Key, Florida.

[nggallery id=673]My wife Barbara, Mulligan our pup and I finally had a chance to take our 18′ Wellcraft out to fish the flats off of Manasota Key, Florida.  We fished a 1km stretch of flats where the water varied from 2-4′ and cast 1/8 & 1/4 oz. jigs rigged with 4 1/2″ plastic minnow grubs as we drifted with the wind.  We had a flood-tide this afternoon which meant we could sneak up on the shallow grass flats with ease.  I used the Rapala Shift series rod and reel and my wife Barbara used the Rapala R-Type series rod and reel.  This was a good chance to check-out their performance in saltwater.  Both outfits were loaded with Sufix 10 lb. test 832 braid and equipped with 20 lb. test Sufix fluorocarbon leaders.

If you would like to see exactly where we caught our fish just load our UFindFish app. on your iPhone or Android phone and go to south-west Florida (about 1 hr. south of St. Petersburg ).  You will see Manasota Key right on the Gulf and the spot marked with a description not too far to the south-west.  Isn’t technology amazing!!  We will be going out tomorrow to see if we can find a school of larger fish.
