Spanish mackerel on the flats, Florida.
Posted on November 27th, 2015Winter time is an excellent time to target schools of Spanish Mackerel that migrate in and out of the southwest Florida shallow saltwater flats voraciously feeding on baitfish.
This is an excellent time to fish small body baits that resemble pilchards or just cast flashy 4″ spoons or jigs/plastic grubs to catch these very aggressive fish.
Spanish mackerel have lot’s of sharp teeth that can easily cut through braid and even 30 lb. fluorocarbon leaders so a wire leader is a must!
