Southwest Florida Spanish mackerel action.

Posted on December 5th, 2015

A couple of “Florida-cold fronts” (70F) have really drawn Spanish Mackerel to feed along the Gulf beaches, in the passes and also on the flats.

Timing is everything, not just seasonally, but also with tide flow. A flooding tide is always best when mackerel will move into harbors and inter-coastal waterways and will feed in water as shallow as 2′. You can use live shrimp, baitfish, or just cast or troll a Rapala or shiny spoon!
