On a recent trip out in the Gulf of Mexico, Fl where we were targeting eating-size Grouper jigging vertical spoons in about 85′ water my wife Barbara had a real surprise. She thought she was stuck on bottom and handed me the rod. I gave the rod a short snap and it released off the bottom but felt odd. I handed the rod back to Barb and she looked at me puzzled as she reeled-in.
To our surprise it turned out to be a very healthy an good size Octopus. Barb didn’t hesitate to hold it so I could get a couple of photos before it’s release. When you fish saltwater, you can literally hook anything, even on a vertical jig!!
