I spoke to our good friend Aldo Nava who operates http://www.niagarafishingadventures.com/ , yesterday to see if he was out on Lake Ontario for spring salmon and trout and as it turned out he was just getting things ready on his 31′ charter boat and let me know that after he did that he was heading down to Queenston, ON to fish for smelt. Accordiing to Aldo there were lot’s of people already fishing and everyone was catching smelt!
We decided to go down and check things out for ourselves and Aldo was right. The entire, accessible shoreline was covered by smelt fishermen and everyone was indeed catching fish! If you like to catch and eat smelt, not is a good time to get out. Beware, you have to be there at least 5-8 hrs. before dark to get the best fishing spots!!
