Smelt are running.
Posted on April 12th, 2012[nggallery id=687]Anglers have been dip-netting smelt along Lake Ontario for the last 3-weeks. I had a chance to head down to the Niagara River over the last couple of days and had good fishing for smelt during the day, and also after dark. Angler traffic was light in the morning, but by 1pm anglers were already staking their evening/night spots and by 7:30, it was elbow to elbow. Everyone I met on the shore was very courtious and friendly. It was nice to see a real mix of ethnic backgrounds all catching smelt and having fun. The run should last for at least another 2-weeks.
