[nggallery id=744]My wife Barbara, our dog Mulligan and I just finished experiencing the excellent smallmouth bass and lake trout fishing Laurentian Lodge, Flack Lake, ON has to offer.  We left Wed. morning for Sault Ste. Marie to cover the 2nd annual Kiwanis International Walleye Tournament on the St. Mary’s River, ON but before the tournament we were booked to spend 2-nights and one and a half days fishing on beautiful Flack Lake, just north of Elliot Lake, ON.

This was our first time fishing in the Elliot Lake, ON area and we were very impressed with the fishing and the wonderful Laurentian Lodge located right on the lake and on the adjoining river.  Our goal was to catch some trophy smallmouth bass and than spend a couple of hours fishing Copper lines for native lake trout.  We ended up landing so many smallmouth bass that we lost count.  The water is extremely clear on Flack Lake so that you can see 30-down!  This makes for challenging smallmouth bass fishng since the smallmouth predominently live in deep water and only occassionally cruise up to 15′ breaks to feed.  We fished TriggerX 4″ tubes/VMC tube jigheads, TriggerX Leeches and Finesse Minnows on VMC Spin Shot drop-shot hooks to catch our fish.  The Rapala R-Type & Shift outfits worked excellent loaded with Sufix 832 braid in  10 lb. test with Sufix Fluorocarbon leaders.

This was our first opportunity to fish from our new River Hawk 18′ boat equipped with a Yamaha 115, 4-stroke outboard, Minn Kota Terrova 80 lb. electric and Humminbird 500 & 800 series sonars.  The rig worked excellent!!

After catching smallies up to 19″ we decided to spend a couple of hours fishing the 100-250′ depths of Slack Lake using the Rapala RSC trolling rods & RSC trolling counter reels, Rapala Hydros trolling counter reels loaded with 45 lb. test Copper lines and Lucky Strike Spoons.  We fished the spoons about 30-50′ deep and hooked 7-lakers quickly, landing 5 of them!

If you would like to enjoy a wonderful wildernss trip, in luxury, with excellent fishing, make sure to check-out Laurentian Lodge, ON.
