Matt Cory of TopSet Sport Fishing sent us these images of some nice-size pike that were caught fishing from shore.
While using a boat can get you to some of the top pike weedbeds on a body of water, many anglers just enjoy fishing from shore. Even though there are limited shore-fishing opportunities, if you are willing to do a little exploration and you don’t mind tall grass, weeds and some mosquitoes, you can discover some really nice “honey-holes”.
I stress to people that many of the rivers and streams that attract salmon and steelhead in the cold-water months also attract bass, pike, panfish and coarse fish during the summer months. Often overlooked, the deeper stretches often produce trophies. Best lures to use are Jointed Rapalas, Vibrax Spinners in size #3, spinner baits and plastic grubs including swim-baits. Some of my favorite are the Shaker, SwimFish and Grubster from Luker City.
