Saugeen River, ON fishing update.
Posted on May 7th, 2014

Wayne Sheridan reports: Dave Fuller was fishing the Maitland River near Godrich and caught these great steelhead. They put up a great fight. Congrats Dave.
Last weekend was basically a wash on the Saugeen River due to rain and cold front. River levels were even higher and faster than opening weekend. We went fishing for an hour Saturday morning, before the rain started, and on our last cast in the drizzle, we caught this beautiful 4lb rainbow trout. We were very lucky to catch it. Due to the long, cold winter, everything in Ontario is 3-4 weeks behind. Be very careful around the rivers edge as it is very slippery and river is very cold and fast.
River Flow Rates: Very high, very fast, very cold, tea coloured, visibility 3ft.
River Levels: Saugeen River (above Durham) at 1.441M, Saugeen River (Walkerton) at 10.429M, Saugeen at Port Elgin at 8.633M, Sauble River (Sauble Falls) 1.471M, Sydenham River (Owen Sound) at 5.244M, Maitland River (above Wingham) down at 10.41M, French River at Woseley Bay at 187.93M, Bronte Creek near Zimmerman 6.141M, Credit River at Streetsville at 4.71M, Credit River at Orangeville not available, Grand River (Doon) at 4.253M (below Shand dam) at 1.758M, Rideau River at Ottawa 3.89M, Ottawa River at Britannia at 59.566M
Flyfishing: BWO, Hend. Bloodworm, roe imitation, minnow.
Prime Fishing Times: Saturday May 10, 2014: 9:13 pm to 1:11 pm (moon overhead) and 8:47 am to 10:59 am (moon underneath).
Always Fish Safely
