Saugeen River, ON and area fishing update.

Posted on May 5th, 2017

Wayne Reports: Opening weekend of trout season was truly a challenge for many fishermen, including myself. On Saturday, river levels were very high on the upper part of the Saugeen River and the water was ice cold. There was also a hatch of midges and BWO on Friday, and the fish were not hungry at all. We had 2 nibbles by some brown trout but they only took half the worm and left. Darn smart trout!

Best bet for trout fishing will be Hanover where the MNR released brown trout and Allan Park pond where they released brown trout

River Levels: Saugeen River (above Durham) at 1.35M, Saugeen River at Hanover, Saugeen River (Walkerton) at 10.08M, Saugeen at Port Elgin at 8.3M,

Flyfishing: BWO, midges, minnow, red wiggler worms, roe imitation

Prime Fishing Times: Saturday April 29, 2017.: 2:51 pm to 6:07 pm (moon overhead) and 2:17 am to 5:28 am (moon underneath).
