Rice Lake Largemouth Bass.

Our good friend Ed Dolstra spent some time fishing Rice Lake in the Kawartha chain of lakes, ON. Weed growth is in full bloom & water temperature warm. Ed was fishing the weedlines in 5-7′ water using a variety of smaller jigs/plastic grubs and has had good results catching both Largemouth Bass and some chunky jumbo Perch.

Rice Lake has a reputation of producing excellent Largemouth Bass fishing all “open-water” season long. You can literally catch Bass casting soft-plastic lures, spinnerbaits and even shallow-diving crankbaits along any weedbeds and even off shorelines.

One of my favorite areas to target them is along the old railway structure that runs up the middle of the lake to Tick Island. I have had excellent success fishing the 4-7′  of mixed weeds and rocks on both sides of the rocks using spinnerbaits and black 1/4 & 3/8 oz black bucktail jigs. While fishing any of the weed beds it’s also common to intercept Walleye and also Mashkinonje.
