While many anglers look for walleye in deeper water through late summer, I still work the shallower weedlines looking for cruising and feeding fish. On a trip we made to the West Arm of Lake Nipissing fishing out of Mashkinonje Lodge, we found an ideal scenerio where there was a shallow weedbed that ended on a drop-off that wend down from about 7-15′. It ended up holding several walleye.
Our advantage to catch those fish was to clearly see the weed/structure break as you can see in the image above. The walleye were feeding in a 5′ wide “strike-zone” right on the weed edge/drop-off.
The C-MAP High Res Bathy chart on the left shows us our exact location on the lake & the detail with the Raymarine CHIRP DownVision is amazing and you can see every detail. I fish with confidence knowing that my Raymarine fishfinders show me exactly what is under the boat!!
