When I fish in Florida’s Gulf of Mexico finding and catching baitfish with a Sabiki Rig (a multi-tippet rig to catch one or more baitfish at a time), is crucial for a successful fishing outing. Larger saltwater gamefish can get picky when they are feeding on specific forage and if you have that forage, it’s a no-brainer!
You can see from the image above that Raymarine with the CHIRP DownVision capability coupled with C-MAP charts finds the baitfish and gives you all the detail. In this case the baitfish school is so thick that even though the bottom is 35′ (scale on the right screen), the mass of baitfish is solid right up to the 24′ mark.
This is when you lower your Sabiki down, keep the live-well lid open and fill it up as quickly as possible so you can do some serious “catching”!!
