Rapala Walleye series rods catch walleye!

Posted on June 1st, 2014

Yesterday my wife Barbara, our pup Mulligan and I had a chance to fish again with our good friends Pat Pagano and Nino Palazzolo for walleye in the Detroit River, ON.  We started fishing around 9:30am and only fished until 12noon.  The action was slower than the day before but we still managed to land about 8-walleye, many white bass and a few sheepshead.

rapala_walleyerod_seekerreelAll of our walleye were caught jigging a 5/8 oz. jighead tipped with a TriggerX Minnow grub on the Rapala Walleye Series spinning rod, Rapala Seeker spinning reel and Sufix 832 braided line with Sufix Fluorocarbon leader.

jigs_triggerXMost of the walleye we landed were right on the bottom in water ranging form 35-40′ deep.  Because of the strong Detroit River current we used the Minn Kota electric to keep our lines as vertical as possible.

sheepsheadSheepshead are frowned upon my many anglers but they are fun to catch and are plentiful.  Most of the time when you hook one it feels like a walleye, until you see the silver!

italo_triggerXToday we will be attending the 12th Annual ICHA Handicapable Fishing Derby…stay tuned tomorrow to see some of the exciting images.
