Randy Doering’s excellent Florida fishing adventure.

Posted on December 12th, 2014

I get the most satisfaction when I can help people catch more fish and especially when I can help them with a planned fishing adventure. I wanted to pass on the comments and images from Randy Doering’s trip to south Florida;

“Thank Italo for your advice and help, directing us on this trip. My friend Steve & I ( buddies since grade 3 ) headed to Florida for tennis & fishing. We planned our trip according to your advice. When we got to southern Florida the weather turned bad so we skipped the sailfish opportunity in Jupiter, FL & had to wait out the weather in the Keys and finally had an acceptable day on November 20 in Key Islamorada, Fl.

florida_keysWe hired Caribsea Charters  with Captain Kenny who has a family run 3 generations charter business. Rarely does an event with all the hype and great reviews quite live up to expectations but Kenny exceeded all expectations & we could see why he has all those great reviews.

snapperKenny was a tireless worker who really loves his job and it shows through his great attitude along with his son & first mate Casey. We did a split charter as he had a couple friends join in and was very reasonably priced.  We were catching endless Mutton Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Grouper and more.  Above, Torne is shown holding his nice Mutton Snapper; the first fish of the day.

steve_barracudaThe water was somewhat rough but at the end of the day we decided to try for some of those trophy barracuda you were talking about. Within 10 minutes Steve landed his first ever barracuda – a beauty!

steve_mackerelMixed in with the variety of bottom fish, we also caught some nice Spanish mackerel that Steve is holding up above.

randy_cudaLess than 5 minutes later, I had my first ever barracuda dancing on top of the waves! This wave dancing beauty gave me 20 minutes of water acrobatics before I landed this nearly 5 foot 28 pound bundle of barracuda brawl.

fish_dinnerAfter a satisfying day we gave our fish to our new friends but took 3 different fish with us to Lazy Days Restaurant just on the north side of Bud & Mary’s in Islamarada. They were super friendly and cooked up an amazing feast for us right there on their beach front restaurant.  Fried & battered, teriyaki and lazy days style.  They were mouth watering, lip smakin’ delicious! For dessert we sat back with a Jamaican coffee & their famous Key Lime pie .  Thanks so much Italo for your tips and advice that steered our trip to success!”
