Hi Dan, now is one of the best times to fish crappie in all of the Kawartha Lakes. They will be in shallower water ranging from 2-7′ deep and especially in bays, canals and around docks. Fishing from a boat will give you the best access since there are limited locations with public shoreline access and good fishing. If you do not have a boat you can fish from shore on the Holland River (Younge St. North), the pier and boat launch area on Lake Scugog, ON and many of the Hamilton Region Conservation areas like Mountsberg, Valen’s and Guelph Lake. You can use small live minnows under a slip-float but many anglers catch lots of crappie just using a 1/16 -1/8 oz jighead and small plastic grub like the Lunker City Hellgies.
