I’ve come into some very old lures 60+ years in age. The wooden lures have this white powdery film to them. Do you have any idea what product would be best to restore them or is that the way of old lures? Slainte! Bill Hutchinson
Posted on March 7th, 2016Hi Bill, that white powdery film is probably the deterioration of the varnish that was used to coat the original paint. If you are planning on selling them to collectors, you may not want to use any chemicals on them to safeguard any reaction that may remove the original paint. I would suggest just wiping them off for now.
If you contact www,luckystrikebaitworks.com in Peterborough, they may be able to tell you what to use. They have produced wooden plugs for a long time.
