Italo, you have always been good to us; sharing your passion, knowledge, and experiences which is greatly appreciated. We want to go after some large pike, bass or musky this weekend. We were contemplating fishing Honey Harbour/ Wolseley Bay on the French River and just heading to Orillia. Do you see an advantage going to one place over the other? Recommend a different place? What kind of baits/ fishing strategy would you use?Your input and expertise is always appreciated!CHRIS +BEN LEUSERHAMILTON,ONPosted on August 4th, 2017
Hi Chris, thank you for your kind words. It will be challenging for you to catch all three large species at one location over the weekend. If you go to Orillia you can catch lot’s of smaller bass up to 3-4lb and a few pike up to 8-10 lb., but I don’t think you will hook any musky there. Musky is the toughest species to consistenly catch in just a couple of days. I suggest you head to Wolseley Bay and start by casting white 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits along the shorelines and especially around and over any weedbeds. Also try casting a 3/8 or 1/2 oz. buzz-bait in the same areas. You may encounter a musky at any time in the shallower shoreline waters so it’s a good idea for both the pike and musky to use a wire leader. You can also cast a Vibrax #4 spinner and try twitching a Rapala Husky Jerk #14. You should have lots of action and you might hook a trophy….God bless you.
