I'm heading down to Florida in a few weeks with my family for vacation. I want to take my boys fishing and I was looking to try around Charlotte harbour. We will be fishing from shore. What licences do we need to get and also what species will be active at this time of month.

You are best off to drive either to Placida and fish off the old railway bridge that is parallel to the Boca Grande Causeway. There you can catch nice size sheepshead, smaller snapper and the odd snook that travels from Charlotte Harbor out to the Gulf. Best bait is shrimp fished with a sliding -sinker rig close to the piles. Or fish the inter-coastal waters in Lemon Bay, FL (about a 20 min drive west of Port Charlotte. Fish Stump Pass with shrimp/spoons for bluefish, mackerel, pompano, etc.
